About this course

This training supports designated safeguarding leads in Early Years settings by outlining Hertfordshire child protection procedures, including managing referrals and using the continuum of need. Participants will learn how to work effectively with other professionals and contribute to child protection plans. Suitable for both new and experienced DSLs who have completed basic safeguarding training within the last two years.

  • understand your role and responsibilities as designated safeguarding lead for child protection

  • develop and embed a positive safeguarding culture with your team and in your setting

  • understand the legislation and Hertfordshire procedures for reporting, referring and escalating child protection concerns, including your role in child protection conferences

  • have an understanding of relevant legislation and guidance relating to safeguarding children

  • be confident in using the Hertfordshire Continuum of Need document to provide Early Help, Intensive and Specialist Statutory Support
