About this course

This on-demand recording will support new schools in using the Early Years ESSENTIALWRITING planning for the 25/26 academic year. Focused on Reception, it introduces the rationale and pedagogy that shape the approach and explains how the materials align with Key Stage 1.

The session explores how the plans and resources can be used effectively to support all pupils as developing writers. Participants will also gain insight into writing assessment at the end of Reception, helping them understand expectations and how evidence can be gathered.

A guided walk-through of selected plans demonstrates how targeted teaching, structured support and consistent modelling can strengthen children’s early writing skills. The session concludes with a clear overview of how to access and implement the full set of resources within Early Years settings to ensure confident, practical application.
