About this course

This two-part webinar series will support design and technology subject leaders with ensuring that their curriculum is well-sequenced and meets the needs of the school’s context. Focusing on leading D&T across a primary school, we will explore key themes such as having a robust cycle that includes designing, making and evaluating, giving pupils the language required to critique and evaluate their own and others’ work. We will explore what progression might look like when designing, evaluating, working with materials, exploring joining techniques, understanding mechanisms and learning about cooking and nutrition. Over the series we will consider the role of D&T subject leader including curriculum development, monitoring and evaluating learning, and supporting colleagues. Delegates will be able to use the content to support teachers within their own school.

  • explore what might be included within design and technology curriculum mapping to ensure that there is logical progression across the school

  • ensure that the curriculum meets the needs of your school community

  • consider how we can support children to develop their D&T understanding including skills and knowledge required for designing, making and evaluating

  • consider tools and models for assessment that might be useful before, during and after the learning has taken place

  • consider the role of D&T subject leader including curriculum development, monitoring and evaluating learning, and supporting colleagues
