About this course

This series of six one-hour, half-termly webinars supports maths subject leaders to stay up to date with current guidance, research and national expectations. Updated for 2025–26, the programme covers themes such as effective modelling, understanding the revised Ofsted Toolkit, scaffolding for independence, raising the profile of maths across the school, supporting SEND access, and developing pupils’ mathematical oracy. Across the year, leaders receive resources and guidance to prioritise key actions, support colleagues and lead their subject confidently.

The series also provides a professional learning and networking space, enabling maths subject leaders to share experiences and explore strategies that have the most impact in school. Sessions include time to reflect on updates from the DfE and Ofsted, plan what needs to happen across the academic year, develop supportive leadership approaches, and strengthen whole-school maths culture. Many leaders return each year as the content continually evolves, and both returning and new participants are welcomed into a supportive maths subject leader community.

  • share information and updates e.g. from the DFE and Ofsted, and take account of the local and national context

  • support the ongoing professional learning of mathematics subject leaders

  • support leaders in their role, prioritising key actions, making strategic decisions and following the flow of the academic year

  • share ideas and strategies to enhance classroom provision and maximise pupil outcomes

  • discuss how to manage supporting colleagues, monitoring and giving feedback

  • be a forum for discussion with other mathematics subject leaders and HFL Education primary maths advisers
