About this course

This module builds staff confidence in applying the Assess–Plan–Do–Review cycle effectively for SEMH and behaviour needs. It supports staff to identify pupils’ starting points, strengths and barriers using tools aligned to the OAP approach.

The session guides participants in planning and measuring small step progress that reflects meaningful SEMH outcomes and can be reviewed consistently over time. It also helps staff understand how clear evidence of strategies can prevent premature escalation by showing what has been tried, what has made a difference and what requires further adjustment. The module aims to give staff a structured, confident way of monitoring impact and adapting support to meet individual needs.

This is module 3 of five fully funded 90 minute online sessions designed to enhance inclusive practice and improve the quality of OAP across Hertfordshire schools. Each module is delivered live, with the option to revisit recorded content, and is suitable for all phases, supporting confident, inclusive learning environments.

  • understand how to apply the graduated approach to behaviour and wellbeing at universal level

  • identify pupils’ starting points, strengths and barriers using OAP aligned tools and observation

  • plan and evaluate small step progress that reflects meaningful and measurable SEMH outcomes

  • capture clear and consistent evidence of OAP strategies and evaluate their effectiveness
